Welcome to the Roots of Today blog. First and foremost, this is where I can post show notes about each particular episode, including a list of sources for those who may feel inclined to do a lot of reading.
As for me, My I am Alan, the host of the show. I have had a life-long interest in history. I currently have a Master of Arts degree in History from Arizona State University, and I did my undergraduate work at California State University Channel Islands. I met some amazing people along the way, and I cannot say enough good things about either university.
The show itself will look at a current event or issue and explore the relevant history in an attempt to enlighten awareness on topic. It is my current belief that the legacy media has changed its structure (print media is dead after all), and the news business is more about superficial outrage peddling designed to get advertising clicks than it is informing the public. At the birth of the Republic, it was generally understood that in order for liberty to be preserved, the nation needed two things to be true. The first was that a vigilant press would keep the workings of government as transparent as possible by keeping the citizenry informed. The second was that the people would be vigilant keep the politicians accountable to the people.
Right now, neither exists.
So, stay tuned. I hope to make this podcast fun and enlightening and maybe give people a better foundation for supporting whichever position they take on an issue. There can be no doubt about one universal truth: knowledge is power.
